Saiful Islam Alif’s one-and-a-half-year-old daughter, Taskia, still doesn’t understand that she will never see her father again. Alif, a lawyer, was brutally murdered during a clash between police and ISKCON supporters at the Chittagong court premises on Tuesday.
Taskia looks at the new faces visiting their home with curious eyes. She refuses to be held by anyone unfamiliar and insists on waiting for her father when offered comfort. When asked about her father’s whereabouts, she innocently replies, “Baba is in the city.”
Tuesday evening, Alif’s home in Darbeshhat Road, Tendol Para, was immersed in grief. His parents and wife were inconsolable.
Alif’s cousin, Mohiuddin, shared that Alif was one of five brothers and two sisters. Four of his brothers live abroad. Alif was known for his courage, strong sense of justice, and kind nature. He had married Israt Jahan Tarin from Darbeshhat, Lohagara, about three years ago.
Meanwhile, locals in Lohagara organized protests condemning the brutal murder. They demanded that ISKCON be banned as a terrorist organization and that those involved in Alif’s killing be brought to justice swiftly.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Lohagara Police Station, Md. Arifur Rahman, confirmed that no untoward incidents had occurred in Lohagara following the protests.
